Oven Roasted Sweet Barbecue Broccoli (Whole30)

Whole30 Oven Roasted Sweet Barbecue Broccoli

While we were off exploring and road tripping along the Mendocino Coast, my first order from Tessemae’s All Natural was delivered to my house and it was waiting for me. I couldn’t wait to get back and try out all the sauces and dressings I ordered! I especially wanted to try the organic barbecue sauce because I’m a huge barbecue sauce lover and I had yet to find a Whole30 compliant barbecue sauce.

I really wanted to made homemade french fries or sweet potato fries to dip my new barbecue sauce in, but I had broccoli on hand and didn’t want to go to the store.

Making Sweet Barbecue Broccoli

Roasting vegetables is by far my favorite way to cook them — mainly because it’s so easy — so I knew I’d be roasting this Sweet Barbecue Broccoli in the oven.

I preheated the oven to 400 degrees and lined a baking sheet with parchment paper. I buy the precut, folded rectangles, and it makes using parchment paper so much easier and faster — and I never have to worry about the rolling!

I then cut the two large heads of broccoli into pieces and arranged them on a baking sheet so no two pieces touch. (I find they stay crisper when they don’t touch.) I baked the broccoli for 15 minutes, then removed it from the oven and transferred to a large bowl, where I added olive oil and barbecue sauce and tossed it to coat all of the broccoli pieces evenly. Next I arranged the broccoli on the baking sheet once more, and baked it in the oven for five more minutes.

You may be tempted to save time and toss the broccoli in barbecue sauce up front and bake it for 20 minutes, but if you do, your broccoli won’t be as crisp and you risk the barbecue sauce burning a bit.

That’s it. Easy and delicious!

Now you can use any store-bought Barbecue sauce for this recipe, but to keep it Whole30 compliant, I used Matty’s Organic Barbecue Sauce from Tessemae’s All Natural.

Dinner Is Served

For dinner, I was in barbecue sauce heaven! It was so good on the broccoli, that I had to try making Oven Roasted Sweet Barbecue Cauliflower too! I then for good measure, added a small amount in the saute pan as I was sauteing up some artichoke garlic chicken sausages.

Our dinner was SO DELICIOUS! And I totally got my fill of barbecue sauce in. Matty’s Organic Barbecue Sauce is now my favorite and I’m already thinking of placing another order.

Oven Roasted Sweet Barbecue Broccoli

Roasting broccoli in the oven means it stays crunchy and barbecue sauce gives it a bit of sweetness that makes this side dish a crowd pleaser.
