Larsen Apple Barn, founded in the 1860s, is the oldest continuously family-owned and operated farm in El Dorado County. We stop by the Larsen Apple Barn every year simply because it’s right next door to Rainbow Orchard where you can get the best apple cider donuts in all of Apple Hill. This also means that we’re usually too full of donuts to eat that the Larsen Bake Shop…
But not this year! This year we got smart and visited Larsen Apple Barn, the Larsen Farm Museum, and the Larsen Bake Shop first.
Located in the heart of Apple Hill, Larsen Apple Barn features a dozen varieties of apples as well as pears, peaches, and nectarines, honey, and pumpkins. After snagging a few apples, we walked through the Larsen Pioneer Farm Museum, documenting generations of local farming and Larsen family history. Then we hit the Larsen Bake Shop to try something sweet, delicious with caramels and apples, and split an apple dumpling with caramel sauce on the outdoor deck that was to-die-for.
