Last night I got to go to something awesome: a preview night for Broadway Sacramento’s brand new show Mamma Mia!
The event was hosted by Broadway Sacramento and Julie Gallaher of Get On The Map, who created the #instayelpatweetasnap community. I’ve known Julie for I don’t know how many years (let’s just say a long time) and she’s always been a huge supporter of local businesses, so when she reached out about joining her new community of local influencers, I of course said yes! I mean seriously, who doesn’t love supporting local businesses and getting to be part of unique experiences like this?!
Mamma Mia! by Broadway At Music Circus opens today and runs through Sunday, August 12 and if you’re a music lover, theater lover, or just want to see a fantastic show, you can’t miss this show!
The event last night, at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, began with a private champagne reception for the #instayelpatweetasnap community where we had time to network with other bloggers and attendees before the Broadway At Music Circus team shared information about their upcoming season and shows, social media tips, and more. One lucky attendee even won brand swag and a gift certificate to one of the theaters amazing dining partners.
Then we were let into the theater to find a seat — and because this wasn’t a ticketed show, we could sit anywhere we wanted! After snagging a seat just a few rows back, I sat for a moment in awe of the round theater. I had been to a Music Circus show a long time ago when it was in a tent, but never to this new theater, which is gorgeous — and looking at the round stage surrounded by seats make you wonder just how they’re going to make the props and sets work…
Our showing of Mamma Mia! was a live dress rehearsal, so while we were warned that the show may stop to fix any issues they may have, the cast never needed it. The show was outstanding and way funnier than I expected. Michelle Dawson (Donna Sheridan) and Francesca Arostegui (Sophie Sheridan) were fantastic, and Jodi Kimura (Rosie) and April Nixon (Tanya) had the entire crowd cracking up throughout the show. The choreography was fun and energetic, and the whole cast was really, just fabulous.
I was also really impressed with how the set changes, movement of props and furniture, and even costume changes were worked into the natural flow of the show and even the choreography — it was quite impressive.
Overall I had a blast and I think fell in love with Broadway Music Circus! I can’t wait to bring my daughter Natalie to a show so she can experience the talented performers and the unique theater in the round.

About Broadway At Music Circus
The Wells Fargo Pavilion is the site of Broadway At Music Circus, and the box office for ticket sales of both Broadway At Music Circus and Broadway On Tour shows.
Music Circus was founded in 1951 as the first professional musical theatre in the round west of Mississippi. Until 2002, its first-class productions were presented under a canvas tent, the last of its kind in the country.
In 2003, on the same site as the original canvas tent, Broadway Sacramento opened the Wells Fargo Pavilion, which combines the traditional arena stage with improved audience comfort. Broadway At Music Circus is the largest, continually operating musical theatre-in-the-round in the country, making it a landmark in the professional theatre community.
