When I’m craving something sweet, Oreos are my go to cookie. They’re also my go to road trip snack because they’re dairy-free and not too sweet. Yes, that’s right. They’re dairy-free. No, there is no dairy in the creamy center of an Oreo. It’s all fake stuff and I’m totally okay with that.
After making Milk Chocolate Pound Cake Waffles, S’mores Waffle Sandwiches, and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Waffles, it was time to try my hand at mixing two of my favorite things. Waffles and Oreo Cookies. After all, if I could put graham crackers in waffles, couldn’t I put Oreo cookies in waffles?
We had to find out.
Pound Cake And Oreo Cookie Waffles
I already had a great pound cake waffle recipe going, that I’ve used as the base batter for several of our waffle creations and decided that’s where I would start with these cookie waffles too. I mean, seriously, combining pound cake and crushed Oreos sounds pretty freaking tasty.
The kids were lined up at the kitchen island for this dessert waffle test, no one was going to miss this one. But they didn’t fool me one bit. They were also totally sneaking Oreos and chunks of the Hershey’s cookies and cream candy bars behind my back while I was making the waffles.
Making Oreo Cookie Waffles
I know it looks like there are a lot of ingredients for these waffles, and there are. But trust me, it’s not that big of a deal, and the recipe is really, very easy.
While the waffle iron was preheating, I crushed up the Oreo cookies to create 1 cup of crushed Oreos, leaving some decent size chunks of cookie in the mix. I also chopped two cookies and cream candy bars up to use as a waffle topping.
Then, in a large mixing bowl, I beat the sugar and butter together until fluffy, and beat in the eggs, coconut milk, and apple cider vinegar. Next, I added the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and crushed Oreos, mixing everything together until all ingredients were fully incorporated.
Finally, I spooned the batter into my preheated waffle iron, being careful to not overfill the waffle wells, and cooked the waffles for about 3-5 minutes — until the waffle turns a deep golden brown. I removed the waffles from the waffle iron, topped them with Oreo cookie halves and chopped candy bar pieces, and served them up.
Holy Moly. The Oreo Cookie Waffles were pure heaven.
The waffles weren’t thick or heavy. Adding an entire cup of crushed Oreos gave the waffles a lighter, fluffier texture with a bit of a crunch. And the whole waffle, every bite, was completely flavored like an Oreo cookie. Eating the waffle was like eating a giant, soft Oreo.
Oh, and the white chocolate cookies and cream bar sprinkled on top was excellent. It added just the right amount of sweetness to really set off this dessert.
