Cheesy Bacon Bites

Cheesy Bacon Bites

If you’ve been following the recipe I post for any amount of time, you may have noticed that a lot of them use cheese and bacon. They’re probably my daughter’s favorite foods.

Whether on vacation or at home, when Natalie was little, we couldn’t set out a plate of bacon for breakfast or brunch because she’d eat all of it before anyone else even had a chance to eat one piece. She is never full when it comes to crunchy bacon.

She also loves cheese of all types. Natalie even has a “cheese guy” that she visits when selling mandarins at the farmers’ market with her grandparents. Yes, she uses her own money to buy fancy cheese because I don’t buy it anymore (lactose allergy).

I loved these as a kid and from the very first time I made Natalie Cheesy Bacon Bites, they have been her first choice for holiday snacks, game day snacks, and movie day snacks. They are by far her most favorite appetizer — they even top the Mac & Cheese Balls at Cheesecake Factory.

Thankfully, Cheesy Bacon Bites take almost no effort to make.

All they are is cream cheese, bacon, shredded cheddar jack cheese, salt and pepper, onion flakes, and garlic powder inside buttery crescent roll dough.

That’s it nothing more to them.

How To Make Cheesy Bacon Bites

Making Cheesy Bacon Bites

When I asked Natalie was special things she wanted me to make on Christmas Day this past year, Cheesy Bacon Bites was the first thing out of her mouth. So I picked up the ingredients from the store and we made them for lunch on Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, I cooked at batch of bacon in the oven so we could make Cheesy Bacon Bites with real bacon and not the pre-packaged “real bacon bits” from the store. Fresh bacon, chopped in big chunks, makes these taste so much better!

On Christmas Day, I preheated the oven to 350 degrees, put the cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl to soften it, and mixed in the onion flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Next, I rolled out the crescent roll dough, spread the cream cheese mixture over the entire sheet of dough, and covered it in chopped bacon and shredded cheddar jack cheese. Then I rolled up the crescent roll dough lengthwise, similar to how you make “pinwheels” or cinnamon rolls, and cut it into slices, placing each slice on a baking sheet.

They bake for about 15 minutes, or until the crescent roll dough begins turning a golden brown. As soon as the timer goes off, Natalie is in the kitchen ready to eat them up! I usually transfer them to a plate right away, but make her wait a few minutes to avoid burning her tongue.

All I can say is that if you love cheese and you lobe bacon, and you love buttery crescent rolls, this is going to be the perfect appetizer for you.
